A Bear Called Paddington -by Michael Bond

The Browns first met Paddington at a train station-Paddington was the name of the station. He had travelled all the way from Peru with only a jar of marmalade, a suitcase, and his hat.

The Browns soon found out that Paddington was a very unusual bear. Things keep happening to him. Even quite ordinary things like having a bath, or going to the seaside turn out to be very un-ordinary for Paddington.

This book contains quite a few short stories about Paddington’s crazy adventures. I love Paddington, and all ages can read this book!

Clever Polly and the Stupid Wolf- by Catherine Storr

One day a wolf came to the door and Polly answered it. The great big wolf said that he had come to eat her up. He was quite surprised when she told him that she didn’t want to be eaten.                                                                 “Oh, yes, said the wolf, “I’m going to eat you. But first tell me, what is that delicious smell?”

“Come down into the kitchen,” said Polly, “and I will show you. So the wolf followed her into the kitchen, and there, sitting on the table, was a delicious looking pie.                                                                                                         “Have a slice?” asked Polly. “Now,” said Polly after the third helping, “what about me?”                                                                                                                                      “Sorry,” the wolf said, “I’m too full of pie. I’ll have to come another day to deal with you.”

The wolf did come back again whenever he was hungry, but Polly outwits the wolf on each and every occasion! This book can easily be read aloud to the younger ones, but that doesn’t mean the older ones don’t like this book too!

The Hundred and one Dalmatians- by Dodie Smith

Pongo and Missis had a lovely life. With their human owners, the Dearlys, to look after them, they lived in a comfortable home in London with their 15 adorable Dalmatian puppies, loved and admired by all. Especially the Dearlys’ neighbour Cruella de Vil, a fur-fancying fashion plate with designs on the Dalmatians’ spotted coats! So, when the puppies are stolen from the Dearly home, and even Scotland Yard is unable to find them, Pongo and Missis know they must take matters into their own paws! Written by Isabella

Isabella and I love this book and recommend this book to 8 year olds and up.

The Mouse with a Question Mark Tail- by Richard Peck

This book is about one of the smallest mice in the world. This mouse has no name, but has a big adventure in the famous Buckingham Palace. He visits the queen, and at the end of the book there is a big surprise… no spoilers! This book has a brilliant plot, and I recommend this book to all kids.

Watership Down- by Richard Adams

Watership Down is the tale of a group of rabbits in search of a home. Fiver, a small, young rabbit, has a gift: He can tell when things are going to happen and he can sense whether they will be good or bad. Fiver senses great danger to the rabbits’ home. His brother Hazel, who is slightly larger and helps take care of Fiver, takes Fiver to the Chief Rabbit, the Threarah. Fiver tells the Threarah that he sensed great danger, but the Chief Rabbit does not believe him.

Hazel decides that they must leave the warren, so he recruits some friends, Dandelion, Blackberry, and Pipkin, a friend of Fiver. Bigwig, one of the leading members of the warren (the Owsla), believes Fiver and wants to go with them. This book is one of my favourite books, and I recommend this book to 9 year olds and older.

Wind in the Willows- by Kenneth Grahame

Mole has a sudden case of spring fever, gives up on his house-cleaning, and wanders in the fields and meadows. He finds himself by a river (he has been such a stay-at-home that he has never seen it before) and meets the Water Rat, who invites Mole into his boat, something else he has never seen before. This is the beginning of the great book.

Half way through the book, the Mole, the Water Rat and the Badger go to Toad Hall to try to help their friend Mr. Toad who has a bad habit of reckless driving. Toad has quite a few adventures. The four friends go to battle to regain Toad Hall. The book ends with a banquet where all the friends rejoice at Toad’s return. This a great book for all ages, even the little ones.

(all these ages are JUST SUGGESTIONS-you don’t have to be that certain age to read the book…)
